Skincare | Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon

I’ve been a fan of underarm waxing for some time now. Since my pregnancy, my underarms became unsettlingly dark! (…TMI) I know they say it goes away on its own, but c’mon, I wasn’t going to risk it. So what I did was to avoid the things that were supposedly causing the problem and voila! my underarms turned out to be in much better condition than before I even got pregnant, which I’m so happy about, BTW. They’re still not good enough to be cast in a deo commercial, but I’m not complaining either!

Here are the 3 things I did to lighten my armpits:

  1. I stopped using deodorant altogether and switched to the miracle stone, our good ol’ Tawas 😉
  2. I used whitening cream (the one that Mosbeau has which retails for a little under P1,000)
  3. And lastly, I stopped shaving my armpits and started getting it waxed instead.

I’ve tried a few waxing salons in the past and I want to share with you my experiences so you’d know what to expect IF and WHEN you do decide to get WAXED. (But seriously, do it already!)

Today, i’m going to tell you how they do it at :

Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon

Okay so first of all, can I just gush over how pretty the salon is?

Pastels and floral prints dominate the whole interior, accented by dainty things. The interior decoration and the whole ambiance goes well with the sweet name. Just looking at the décor will literally give you a toothache!

I wouldn’t necessarily decorate my house with floral wallpaper ON PURPOSE, it’s not my style. I do, however, appreciate a well executed idea 😉

The ambiance gives off a homey feel and you’ll hear songs of Regina Spektor and Sarah Bareilles in the background. If that doesn’t give you the feel good vibes, I don’t know what will.

Hey Sugar Waxing Salon prides itself of using all natural and all organic products (chemicals be gone!) so they will use actual Sugar to harvest your crops. They also use natural oil such as virgin coconut oil and castor oil to get your skin in healthy tip top shape.

Appointments are accepted, but walk ins are fine just the same. I just walk in on all my previous visits and I get accommodated easily without any fuss.

When you get to the counter, you’ll be asked what treatment you want done and you’re going to fill up a customer info sheet. The esthetician will call you when everything’s all set!

Here’s a list of all their services and how much you’ll have to shell for it.

Look! Even the treatments have sugary names. Can I take in anymore sweetness?!

I got the cold Peppermint Pit-ty which in the real world is just cold underarm waxing. The procedure costs 210 pesos for them ladies and will last you a good 2-3 weeks before turning into Chewbacca again.

The cold waxing procedure starts with the esthetician cleaning your underarms with water, removing dirt and traces of any underarm product and wiping it dry. She’ll also put powder on your kili kili.

Hey Sugar! uses a combination of thickened Sugar and Lemon sticky enough to spread and peel mercilessly (just kidding, they’re super gentle. *not really* just kidding! *no i’m not…* no seriously they are.) So it’s basically a series of spread and peel, spread and peel, until all your pit hair comes off together with the sugar/lemon wax combo.

Does it hurt? of course it does! I’m not even gonna lie. It hurts like a MOTHER! But don’t worry, you’ll eventually get used to it. If you’re sensitive to pain though, I suggest you get hot waxing instead of cold simply because it’s less painful. Also, be sure to engage your esthetician in some good convo to distract you.

Naturally, not all armpit hair will come with the wax. The stubborn ones left will be removed by threading. This is the clean up part. The esthetician will come close to your armpit (too close, actually! lol) making sure it’s a clean sweep!

Once done, you’ll be given a mirror to see for yourself if you’re actually satisfied with the outcome, or if you want to peel your entire armpit skin off, you psycho. TIP: If you think your esthetician missed a spot, don’t hesitate to tell her. And if you’re good with it, she’ll rub on some virgin coconut oil to ease and moisturize your skin. (It’s probably her way of saying sorry, I tortured your kili kili… here’s some oil.)

Oh! and to close the treatment, you also get a complimentary hand or back massage! 🙂 Which is like… just them rubbing the area oh so lightly, but you know, it’s the extra effort that warms ya ❤

So, there you have it ladies and gents! A play by play of what to expect over at Hey Sugar! Waxing Salon as told by yours truly. When you do go, don’t forget to tip your esthetician and show some love ❤

I walked in with disturbingly hairy armpits and walked out perfectly waxed! And possibly with Diabetes.

I may have missed to mention a few things… but If you want to know more, they have a Facebook page which you can see right HERE.

or you can visit their adorably designed website HERE.
