(this is not a paid advertisement and all products were bought from my own money)
I’m extremely lazy when it comes to skin care. Make up remover? pff… exfoliator? whatever. Until recently, the worst thing imaginable happened. I got a bad case of Adult Acne.
Adult acne is what nightmares are made of. It’s so horrible I wish it upon people I hate. “I hope you get really bad acne, b*tch!” is what I imagine myself saying out of pure anger. Waking up in the morning having a shit ton of pimples is no fun at all. And thanks to acne, I’m forced to actually use stuff and suddenly, I found myself with a legitimate answer to “what’s your skin care regimen like?” Where my usual response would be something like “ehh… I sleep?”
And so my journey began towards better skin care. I mean, I’m still no expert. I’m also still trying to figure out what good products are out there for my Combination skin type.
I stumbled upon Beauty Formula’s Tea Tree Exfoliating Facial Wash while roaming the facial care isle of the supermarket. It had the words Tea Tree pretty big on the bottle so it was pretty hard to miss. Hmm… I wonder what this is made of? Aha. Tea Tree. Just as I have suspected. I’m really good at finding out obvious things.
Nope, not spit. That’s the BF Tea Tree Face Wash in the palm of my hand.
First off, it’s fragrance-free which I really like. It’s a mild cleanser that did not strip my skin off its natural oils. I used to like my face squeaky clean after washing with ordinary bath soap, which I later found out to be extremely wrong. Ohohohoh boy. To put it simply, hydration = healthy skin. After washing, all traces of dirt was gone and I like how it was mild and gentle. It felt clean without being dry. In fact, it felt slippery even after rinsing well. Did it clear up my acne? Mmm…. it’s too early to tell… hopefully the Tea Tree factor will work its wonders, but for someone who has really sensitive skin, it didn’t irritate it either so that’s pretty good in itself. Did it cleanse my face? Absolutely. Will I use it again? Yes, I will definitely finish the whole bottle before moving on to the next brand. 🙂
You’re also supposed to exfoliate your face 1 – 3 times a week depending on a number of factors such as your skin type and the kind of exfoliator you’re using. I KNEW this in theory, although I did not APPLY it and they’re two very different things. For some reason, I didn’t do it, probably because I’m a lazy ass motherf* who’d rather browse online than take care of herself. That’s a valid valid reason and I reserve my right against being judged.
That’s how the BF Cucumber & Avocado Facial Scrub looks like when squeezed out.
Not only is avocado delicious, it’s also good for your skin. Oh look, there are micro-beads… (God I hope this doesn’t irritate my skin). UPDATE: I used it and like the Tea Tree Oil Cleanser, it was also mild and gentle and left my skin well hydrated. However, I did find that my face was EXTRA smooth after washing, and it looks much brighter, almost healthier. I literally went “so this is why you’re supposed to exfoliate!” It’s like man discovering fire for the first time. Good stuff. Good stuff. So exfoliating did clean my pores. It’s awesome that my skin didn’t get irritated at all. Will I use it again? Yes, I will 🙂 But let’s not get overexcited about exfoliating because even the monkeys in the amazon know that over-exfoliating is bad.
Now, this one’s a bonus. I personally don’t see the added benefit of using a facial mask because I’m already cleansing + exfoliating (remember I’m super lazy) but it was right there, so what the hell. Let’s experiment. (This is really f*cked up though because I know have sensitive skin and I’m in no position to “experiment” but again, a big fat resounding WTH.)
The Tea Tree Deep Cleansing Facial Mask is also fragrance-free, but is not unscented. It smelled like mint, and felt cold initially after application. The way to use it is to slather a generous amount onto your face and leave on for 3 – 5 minutes and then wash away with warm water. It was easy to slough off, and my face still felt hydrated. After washing, I noticed that my face looks cleaner and fresher although not necessarily brighter unlike after exfoliating. Will I use it again? Yes, I’m willing to give it a try, after all my face was a whole lot cleaner after using it. Clean and tight pores yo! Although I’m all about instant gratification, I also know my skin won’t improve overnight.
Overall, I’m so happy that all the Beauty Formulas products I tried did not irritate my skin 🙂 None of them was drying, and all gave me that ultra clean but hydrated feeling. Apart from being super affordable, they’re also easy to spot in almost all drugstores. I’m bookmarking this cleanser + exfoliator + face mask combo, so I can compare them to the next products I will try and hopefully… I’ll eventually end up finding my own Holy Grail of skin care. Ahhh… that is the ultimate dream. I’m off to a great start and I’m feeling very positive about this skin care journey!
