Skincare | St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Moisturizer

I may have told you before how I used to like my face being dry and squeaky clean. I didn’t think much of skin care in the past and as long as I washed my face with soap before bed, I thought I was treating it well. If I got a blocked pore (which happened only all. the friggin. time.) I would be like “how dare you! I washed you with soap last night you ungrateful b*tch.”

For a long time, I’ve neglected the fact that Hydration is key to good skin and I used to think that moisturizers were only for people who have dry skin and live in colder countries. A little research and a few moisturizers later, I’ve proven my old self wrong. I am now a convert and have repented for  my sin against my skin. Whether you have dry skin or oily, living in North Pole or the Philippines, you. need. hydration. Drinking water isn’t enough because the skin is the last to benefit from the water we take, so our skin needs a little more boost. Trust me, your future self will thank you later. 🙂

One western drugstore beauty product I’ve tried is this moisturizer from St. Ives : the Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Moisturizer.

I found out about this product after seeing it several times on Pinterest. (Yes, Pinterest marketing apparently works!) So I went to look for it in real life (in other words, not my made-up perfect Pinterest world) and to my delight, I didn’t need to search far and wide. I found one over at Watsons for a low low price of P250.

I know right? P250 for a tub of 10 oz product that is filled to the brim. Isn’t that exciting? You can bathe in this everyday and not feel bad at all!

St. Ives is dedicated to bringing you the best of nature with formulas that delight the senses as they leave your skin with a soft, fresh feel. We understand that little every day choices we make help better your life. That’s why St. Ives is a formulator of quality products.

Non-Comedogenic and Dermatologist Tested

Well that’s reassuring.

Okay, two things. First, this thing was not sealed when I bought it. So God knows how many people opened this product in the store. Second, there is no protective second cap inside which makes things MUCH worse.

Also, I don’t know how you feel about scents and fragrances. I personally don’t like fragrances on skin care products because it means it has alcohol in it (or some other synthetic ingredient) and alcohol is not good for sensitive skin. But if you’re totally fine with it, then well and good.

The consistency is slightly on the thick side, so I suggest you put this last in the order of your skin care routine, as it may block other formulas that will come after it. So do your cleansing, your toning, your serum, your spot treatment, your lotion, your sheet mask if you’re feeling luxurious, and THEN this. This is good to use during the day and at night time, but I personally prefer to use this only in the evenings because even though I like hydration now, I still don’t like the icky feeling during the day. My SPF lotion is doing that already, so that job is taken.

Now the big question is : Does it work?

To which my answer is happily a yes!

The fact that this is formulated with collagen and elastin proteins make me happy. But I’m not going to pretend to know what Safflower Seed Oil is all about. This stuff really works though. Instant gratification people will rejoice over the fact that you will see soft and supple skin overnight. Literally. Just sleep on it one night and you’ll see a difference in softness, like your skin has been thirsty since the beginning of time until this came along.

Despite the fragrance, it didn’t feel tingly on the skin, although I did notice slight reddening on my face which went away after a few minutes.

However, the first time I used this, I had two tiny zits pop up in the morning. I’m not quite sure if this is the culprit, but I’m definitely not happy about it so I stopped.

I used it again after a few days of rest, only now with other pimple-fighting products because I’m just not ready to give up the hydration it gives my skin. It’s that good. BUT, there’s a big but.

No Kim, not that butt. I again got two tiny zits here and there because of this moisturizer and as much as it breaks my heart, I will have no problem giving it up (and by “giving up” I mean giving it away to my mom, who is less inclined to get pimples but whose skin is crying out for some major hydration.) After all, first on my priority list is getting rid of acne, and moisture comes only a close second. You gotta know your priorities, gurrrrl!

So, to wrap it all up :

It’s very affordable at only P250 for a 10 oz container filled to the brim

A little product goes a long way

Smells really good

Works wonders to moisturize skin

Unsealed and No protective lid after the cap which is unhygienic

No spoon or scoop either, but tub products don’t usually have them anyway

Not fragrance-free

Had one or two tiny zits after using

St. Ives Timeless Skin Collagen Elastin Moisturizer works! It will hydrate your skin like crazy. However, if you have sensitive skin, you might want to skip this because it will give you breakouts even if you use acne treatment meds.
